What is the “First Breath”?

First Breath refers to the breath of God that was breathed upon Adam that changed him from a lump of dust into man made in the image of God. This transforming powerful breath is the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of an individual that awakens them to the life of God. Think of it, when God breathed upon the lump of dust he had formed--Adam awakened. In that first moment of human existence Adam experienced what he was created to experience. The first face he ever saw was the face of God. The first voice he ever heard was the voice of God. The first conscious awareness he ever experienced was of the presence of God. The first sensation he ever experienced was that of the Spirit of God moving upon his life. Though it has been corrupted by sin as a result of the fall of man, we all still carry this longing deep inside our spiritual DNA. A person will never be truly fulfilled until they experience the “first breath” upon their life. Jesus said that we must be born from “above.” The same Holy Spirit of God is still moving upon the lives of people today transforming them into the image of God’s own dear Son—Jesus!
